Aval/poha ladoo is a very healthy and easy to prepare sweet. This looks similar to rava ladoo except that it has the flavours of aval. This is a quick neivedhyam dish which can be prepared for gokulashtami/krishna jayanthi.
Aval Ladoo Recipe
Makes - 15 ladoos
Ingredients
- Aval/poha (any variety) - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Melted ghee - 1/4 cup
- Cashews - few
- Cardamom - 1 or 2 bits
Method
- Remove impurities in aval if any.
- Dry roast aval in a pan till it turns slightly golden brown in color. Do not over roast it.
- Powder the roasted poha in the mixie to a fine powder.
- Powder sugar along with cardamom to a fine powder.
- Add little ghee in a pan and fry cashews in it till golden brown.
- In a wide bowl, add the powdered poha, powdered sugar + cardamom and the fried cashews.
- Heat the remaining ghee and add it to the mixture in the bowl.
- Mix well with a ladle and when it is hand bearable to touch, make ladoos out of it. Make ladoos when the mixture is still warm. Otherwise shaping will be difficult.
- This ladoo stays well for at least a week.
Notes
- Add ghee little by little so that the required amount for shaping ladoos is known.
- If in case the ghee added is more, it will be difficult to make ladoos. In such cases, keep the powdered mixture in fridge for 5 to 10 minutes and then shape them.
- Raisins can also be fried with cashews and added to the ladoo.
