This is an instant version of sweet paniyaram/appam using wheat flour. This is prepared during festivals like karthigai deepam, krishna jayanthi etc. This is an easy to prepare sweet which can be done even by beginners.
Kuzhi paniyaram/Appam(Sweet) Recipe
Makes : 16 paniyarams
Ingredients
- Wheat flour - 1 cup
- Rice flour - 1 to 2 tbsp
- Jaggery - 3/4 cup
- Cardamom powder - a pinch
- Cooking soda - a pinch
- Ripe banana - 1/2 (optional)
Method
- Take a bowl and add wheat flour and rice flour.
- Melt jaggery in little water and remove the impurities if any.
- Add the melted jaggery to the flour mixture along with cardamom powder, cooking soda and banana. Add water if required and prepare a thick batter of pourable consistency.
- Add ghee in the paniyaram pan and pour a small portion of the batter in each hole and cook on both sides.
- Serve hot.
- The above quantity of ingredients yielded 20 paniyarams.
Notes
- Adding banana gives softness to the paniyaram.
- This paniyaram stays soft even after cooling down.
