Neer mor is a refreshing drink usually made as a neivedhyam for Rama Navami festival along with panagam. My mother makes it for her poojai on Tuesday and Friday along with panagam. We also make it frequently during summer to quench our thirst on hot days. I made this on the Sri Rama Navami day last week and managed to click as well.
Neer Mor - Spiced Buttermilk Recipe
Serves : 2 - 3 people
Ingredients
- Curd - 1/2 cup
- Water - 2.5 cups
- Ginger - a small piece (grated)
- Green chilli - 1 small (finely chopped)
- Curry leaves - 8 to 10 leaves
- Coriander leaves - little
- Hing - 1/2 tsp
- Salt - as required
Method
- Finely chop the ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and coriander leaves.
- In a bowl, take the curd and add the water. Adjust the quantity of water according to the thickness of the curd.
- Whisk it well using a whisk or mathu.
- Add the chopped ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and coriander leaves.
- Add required salt and hing and mix everything well.
- Add more water if required. Leave this aside for 10 to 15 minutes for all the flavours to blend well.
- You can have it as such or even strain and serve. The flavours will still be intact.
- Mix well before serving.
Notes
- Adjust water according to the consistency you require.
- Chop all required ingredients finely but it still may end up coming in your mouth while drinking. I personally suggest to strain as none of the flavours will still not be missed.
- Use chilled curd and water for best results.
- Even if you don't have one of the ingredients - chilli/coriander leaves/curry leaves or ginger, you can still make this with available ingredients.
Try this easy and refreshing drink for this summer - much healthier than the readymade flavoured ones!!
