Panakam is a refreshing drink usually made as a neivedhyam for Rama Navami festival. I have had it regularly as my mother makes it for her poojai on Tuesday and Friday. She makes this along with neer mor. It is such an easy and healthy drink to prepare and can be made even on regular days as a simple neivedhyam. Though different people make it in different ways, given here is a simple recipe - the way my mother makes. I made this on the Sri Rama Navami day last week and managed to click as well.
Panagam - Panakam Recipe
Serves : 1 - 2 people
Ingredients
- Jaggery - 1/4 cup
- Water - 1 cup
- Cardamom - 2
- Dry ginger powder - 1/4 tsp
- lemon - 1/2 of a big lemon(1 tbsp)
Method
- Powder/crush jaggery and dissolve in water until it melts.
- Add dry ginger powder and crushed powder from 2 pods of cardamom.
- Squeeze the lemon juice and mix everything well. Leave it aside for 5 to 10 minutes for all the flavours to blend well.
- Filter through a strainer and serve this healthy and refreshing drink.
Notes
- To get the best flavours of all the ingredients, mix everything well and leave aside for atleast 10 minutes and then strain.
- We usually make this for neivedhyam and hence serve without chilling or refrigeration. But if required, you can refrigerate and serve after straining.
Try this easy, healthy and refreshing drink for this summer!!
