Dal Khichdi - Moong dal Khichdi

This post explains the preparation of a quick and easy one pot meal - dal khichdi made with rice and moong dal. This can be done in less than 30 to 45 minutes including soaking, chopping and cooking. It is a perfect choice for lazy days or when you want to make something quick and nutritious. This can also be given to younger kids without the spices as it has both rice and dal.

Dal Khichdi - Moong dal Khichdi

Notes

  • I have given the recipe for simple khichdi. If you prefer you can include vegetables like carrot, beans, peas or capsicums. If so, add along with tomato, ginger and chilli.
  • I always make khichdi without onions as we love it that way. If you prefer you can add finely chopped onions before adding tomatoes.
  • I have used kashmiri red chilli powder for the bright red color and hence given the quantity accordingly. If using regular chilli powder, add according to the spice level. Adjust the quantity of green chilly according to this.
  • I have given 4 cups of water measurement for 1 cup of rice-dal mixture. This ensures mushy consistency and stays like that even after becoming warm.
