Chilli Chapathi - Mixed Veg Chapathi - Leftover ideas

Chilli Chapathi is similar to the chilli parotta or mixed vegetable parotta which we get in restaurants, except that we use leftover chapathis for this dish. When we end up having extra chapathis, we can reserve them and prepare this flavourful dish. We can prepare the chapathis in the morning and prepare it as an evening snack for kids or even for dinner. Similarly leftover chapathis of dinner time can be used for this dish on the next day morning.

Chilli Chapathi - Mixed Veg Chapathi Recipe

Serves : 3

Ingredients

  • Chapathi (leftover or freshly prepared)  - 3 pieces
  • Onion  -  1 medium sized or 2 small sized, finely chopped
  • Tomato  -  1 big sized, finely chopped
  • Capsicum  -   1 small or half of a big one
  • Peas(fresh or frozen)   -   a handful
  • Turmeric powder  -  1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder  -  1 tsp
  • Pav bhaji masala/ garam masala powder   -  1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds  -  1 tsp
  • Salt  -  as required
  • Oil  -  2 tbsp
  • Tomato sauce   -   1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves   -  little

Method

  1. Cut the chapathi into thin strips or roughly into small pieces. If using left over chapathis, heat them up in a tawa and then cut into pieces.
  2. In a pan, add oil and once it heats up, add cumin seeds.
  3. Once they crackle, add the finely chopped onion.
  4. Once the onions turn brown, add the finely chopped tomatoes, capsicum and peas.
  5. Add salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, tomato sauce and pav bhaji masala/garam masala powder and stir well.
  6. Sprinkle little water for the masala to be cooked along with the vegetables.
  7. Once the raw smell leaves and the vegetables are also cooked, add the cut chapathi pieces and stir by adding oil, if required.
  8. Cook till the chapathi pieces coat well with the masala and become crunchy. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and switch off the stove.
  9. This dish can be eaten without any side dish, but if you prefer you can have it with any raita.
  10. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Capsicum has to retain its crunchiness, so do not over cook it.
  • I have used frozen peas here and hence added as is. If using fresh peas, boil it before adding to the dish.
