Dal Khichdi - Moong dal Khichdi

                                       This post explains the preparation of a quick and easy one pot meal - dal khichdi made with rice and moong dal. This can be done in less than 30 to 45 minutes including soaking, chopping and cooking. It is a perfect choice for lazy days or when you want to make something quick and nutritious. This can also be given to younger kids without the spices as it has both rice and dal.

                                      This post explains the preparation of an easy to make vegetable biriyani in pressure cooker. Vegetable Pulao - Easy Pulao Recipe

Vegetable Pulao - Easy to prepare one pot meal with the goodness of vegetables. This is a simple version of vegetable pulao which I regularly make at home. It doesn't involve any grinding and has only simple masala flavours. A simple raita and chips/vadam is sufficient for this yummy rice variety. Else you can pair it up with any spicy gravy. This is an excellent lunch box option which can be done within a short time. I make this frequently for my daughter's lunch box. Methi Tomato Rice - Methi Tomato Chawal

Methi tomato rice is yet another easy one pot meal which I learnt from my cousin from whom I learnt the Rava Pongal recipe. I usually make Methi Paratha or Methi Pulao whenever I buy a bunch of methi leaves. When I was casually chatting with my cousin, she suggested me to try this easy to make methi rice with the flavours of tomato.   A simple raita and chips/vadam is sufficient for this yummy rice variety. Channa Pulao

Channa pulao is another easy one pot meal which is a great lunch box option with the goodness of chickpeas.      I made it with very simple ingredients. You can pair with a simple raita or even a rich gravy.

Spinach pulao - Palak pulao

Spinach pulao is an easy rice variety which has high nutritional value. Since it is a greeny leaf vegetable, it is a rich source of iron. This pulao is a great lunch box option and is an alternate to the usual dal and paratha which is prepared with spinach.      I made it similar to the mint peas pulao that I regularly make with few variations that I learnt from the mint pulao recipe I saw here . I loved the addition of lemon juice and pav bhaji/garam masala in this pulao.                                                                    

Mint Peas Pulao - Pudina Peas Pulao

Mint peas pulao/ Pudina peas pulao is an easy one pot meal prepared using mint leaves and green peas. This is a simple way to include mint in our diet as we grind the leaves and use it in the rice. This pulao is a healthy variety to pack for kids lunch boxes.

Tomato Peas Pulao

Tomato Peas Pulao is a healthy and easy to prepare one pot meal. I have prepared it by making few changes to the vegetable biriyani recipe. It pairs well with a simple raita and is an ideal choice for lunch box and travel.

Paruppu podi - Powder Varieties

Paruppu podi is a simple to prepare powder variety which can be mixed with hot rice. It also goes well as a side dish in place of  idli milagai podi . Though there are many variations to this recipe, I have shared the one which my mother-in-law regularly prepares at home. She always uses more of roasted gram dal for this podi and it gives a very nice aroma to the dish.

Methi Pulao

Methi pulao is an easy to prepare pulao variety prepared with the goodness of fresh methi leaves. This is an alternate way to make use of methi leaves other than preparing paratha, dal etc.

Peas Pulao - Easy Pulao Varieties

Peas pulao is the easiest pulao variety which can be prepared even by beginners in a very short time. I have given a simple version of this pulao without any masala items. You can alter it according to your preference. Since this is a very mild pulao, it is suitable for kids as well. You can pair it up with a rich gravy or dry curry or just with a simple raita. This is ideal for lunch box and travel as well.

Onion Tomato Capsicum Masala

Onion tomato capsicum masala is an easy to prepare side dish which can be used in a variety of ways. It can be mixed with rice, as a stuffing for bread sandwich or even as a side dish for roti. This is a simple recipe which even beginners in cooking can try with ease.

Vegetable biriyani is an easy to prepare one pot meal and is loaded with flavours. Biriyani is made in a spicy manner as compared to pulao. This is a simple way to make kids eat vegetables. Though it tastes great when served hot, it is still ideal to pack for lunch boxes and travel as well. The recipe I've provided here is how i usually prepare at home using pressure cooker. I regularly make this dish and it is an easy to prepare dish even for beginners.

Tawa Pulao - Easy one pot meal

I came to know about this recipe from this blog .  This pulao is named so because it is prepared in the same tawa as pav bhaji. This is a popular mumbai street food. This dish is prepared using pav bhaji masala and hence it totally has a different flavour from the regular biriyani or pulao. I modified the original recipe to suit our family' s taste. A simple raita will be sufficient to pair with this. This recipe can also be prepared with left over rice.

Ven Pongal

Ven pongal is a comforting food, which is very easy to prepare. Since this includes both rice and dal, it is very nutritious and an alternate way to make kids eat rice and dal. To make it more impressive, we can pair it up with sakkarai pongal. When prepared traditionally on pongal festival, milk is added to this dish. I have mentioned only the simple way of preparing without milk.

Pudina Thogayal - Mint Thogayal

Thogayal is an easy dish which is simple and quick to prepare and is an alternate to the regular sambar, rasam menu. It is different from chutney as it is ground coarsely and will be thicker than chutney. Thogayal can be prepared using dals, mint leaves, curry leaves, coriander leaves etc. This post explains the preparation of mint thogayal, which is a flavourful dish that can be mixed with hot rice or can be had as a side dish for idli, dosa. When mixed with rice, this can be served with any vegetable kootu and pappad or vadams. When handled properly, this can be stored in the refrigerator for minimum 4 to 5 days.

Lemon Rice

Lemon rice is an easy to prepare variety rice which is ideal for travel and lunch box. It can be prepared very quickly and even beginners can try with ease. It goes well with a simple stir fry or kootu variety or even just with pappad or vadam.
